Here is the match to read in the live ticker.
Millman set the first exclamation mark in the opening set and took a 3-1 lead with a break. Thiem immediately struck back, also thanks to two great backhand longline balls, which the Australian could only look after without a chance. Nevertheless, Millman struck again to make it 4:2, had problems serving it out, but won the first act 6:3.
In the fourth game of the second set, Thiem was able to turn a 15:40 as a setback and took a 3-1 lead. The Austrian brought this lead over the distance. Mainly thanks to a strong performance with the backhand. And with many soulful stops that either led directly to points. Or Millman faced such big problems that the Australian couldn't win a trick afterwards.
In the decision, Millman created two break chances in the eighth game, Thiem equalized with strong serves to make it 4: 4. A few minutes later, however, the Australian was allowed to celebrate his entry into the second round. Thiem gave up his serve to zero. With a double fault.
