Dennis Novak (ATP 124) has to be patient for the jump into the top 100 in the world rankings. The Austrian number two at the ATP Challenger 100 tournament in Mouilleron le Captif, France, missed a semi-final entry in the world rankings to get back to their best position to date around three months ago (ATP 104). The 26-year-old lost in the quarterfinals against the 25-year-old Frenchman Mathias Bourgue (ATP 247) with 3: 6, 6: 7 (1).
Just like Novak, in the quarter-finals of the indoor hard court tournament of the Swiss Henri Laaksonen (ATP 109) endowed with 92,040 euros, Jiri Vesely (ATP 128) lost after a 2-6, 3-6 win. In the other two quarter-finals, the young South Tyrolean talent Jannik Sinner (ATP 127) prevailed against Marius Copil (ATP 90) with 3: 6, 6: 1, 6: 4. On the other hand, Mikael Ymer (ATP 81) won against Antoine Hoang (ATP 115) 6: 3, 6: 4.
Young Brit is a surprise
Ymer meets Vesely in the semi-finals, Sinner and Bourgue duel in the second game of the semi-finals. At the other two Challenger tournaments of the week in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and in California's Fairfield, there are no players from the German-speaking countries at the start. In Fairfield, the 17-year-old Brit Jack Draper surprised with a win against former top ten player Jack Sock.
