Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic , who can win the Grand Slam at the US Open in early September, canceled his participation in the ATP tournament in Cincinnati on Monday. "I need a little more time to recover," wrote the 34-year-old Serb on his social networks. The Masters in the state of Ohio will take place August 15-22.
Djokovic failed a little more than a week ago at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the semifinals at the eventual Olympic champion Alexander Zverev. The Serb had missed the historic win of the "Golden Slam", but is hoping after his victories at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon to win the Grand Slam with the success at the US Open in New York.
He is also aiming for the 21st Grand Slam title of his career, with which he would overtake his long-term opponents Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The Swiss had already canceled his participation in the sixth ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year a few days ago .
Djokovic would have started as defending champion in Cincinnati.
