Alexander Zverev has already reached the final twice in Halle

From the metropolis of Paris to the tranquil HalleWestfalen, from the red ashes of Roland Garros to the Center Court lawn of the OWL ARENA at the 28th NOVENTI OPEN: Alexander Zverev also wants to fight for the title of the ATP 500 lawn event (June 12th to 20th) like to have a say: “The last few weeks have been exhausting for me, the preparation time for the lawn season is now short. But I want to play really well and successfully in Halle, ”said the 24-year-old from Hamburg (ATP 6) when he arrived in HalleWestfalen on Saturday afternoon.

Zverev was welcomed there by tournament director Ralf Weber. “We look forward to Sascha's appearances here. He is clearly one of the favorites, ”says Weber. Zverev was unhappy in a five-sentence thriller on Friday in the semifinals of the French Open against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 5). Zverev came back from a 2-0 set deficit and missed three break chances at the beginning of the fifth set. And must continue to wait for his first victory in a Grand Slam tournament.

Zverev 2021 with two tournament wins

Zverev is competing for the sixth time at the ATP 500 top event in East Westphalia this year. In 2016 and 2017 he made it to the final, but then failed because of Florian Mayer and Roger Federer. In 2019, at his last appearance for the time being, the native of Hamburg reached the quarter-finals. Zverev has already booked two tournament wins on his account this year - at the ATP 500 competition in Acapulco and at the Masters meeting in Madrid. "I want to show consistently good form on grass too," explains Germany's number one Zverev in an interview with tournament boss Weber.

The draw with Dominik Koepfer brought an interesting constellation for Zverev, who is placed in the upper half of the tableau. If the tournament goes as it should, the German number one will face either Federer or Daniil Medvedev, who is in first place, in the semifinals. A reunion with his Paris conqueror Tsitsipas would only be possible in the final.
