ATP HalleWestfalen: Application for the first lawn Masters 1000 tournament
The organizers of the traditional grass tennis tournament in Halle/Westphalia are aiming for promotion to the ATP Masters 1000 category. Those responsible announced this on Friday.

"We will make very extensive investments in the entire tournament facility," said tournament director Ralf Weber. Plans include covering a court, building more tournament grounds and new training courts, and expanding the tournament grounds and parking lots. The application for the higher classification is also supported by the city of Halle.
More than 100,000 spectators flock to Halle in East Westphalia every year for the ATP 500 tournament, which many players use as a Wimbledon dress rehearsal. Next year the 30th anniversary of the tournament will be celebrated in a big way.
