One thing is certain: If Andrey Rublev, the last seeded player in the tableau at the ATP Tour 500 tournament in HalleWestfalen, meets Nikoloz Basilashvili in the semifinals, the game will not lack speed. Because both players prefer to push the ball flat and hard across the net. Although the Russian seems to have built in a small safety reserve in terms of trajectory in the last few months, no longer goes straight to the point with every hit.

It will be the fifth duel between the two, the second on German soil. In 2019, Basilashvili won in three sets in the Hamburg final, in the same season before in Doha. Rublev, on the other hand, won the last two games against the Georgian, the most recent match so far took place in Rotterdam. Like HalleWestfalen, an event in the 500 category, which Andrey Rublev seems to be particularly good at.

Rublev strong at 500s

Because with Hamburg, St. Petersburg, Vienna and Rotterdam, the 23-year-old Moscow won four ATP Tour 500 tournaments in a row. This series was only stopped by Aslan Karatsev in Dubai. Rublev looked slightly overplayed, as did at the end of the clay court season, which he ended with a loss to Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round by Roland Garros. In Halle, however, Rublev has not yet given a set, the performance against Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarter-finals was almost flawless before as a server.

Basilashvili had to make a small comeback against Lloyd Harris, otherwise a third set would have been due. The Georgian is very familiar with the area around Halle, he has trained here with his ex-coach Jan de Witt for longer periods. The separation from the German coach took place after the Australian Open, but the agreement between the two is still good. And so Nikoloz Basilashvili has already won two titles as a solo tennis traveler this season: in Munich in the final against Jan-Lennard Struff. And in Doha with the final victory over Roberto Bautista Agut.
