Nothing will happen with Roger Federer's eleventh title in HalleWestfalen. At least not this year. Because Federer, the record champion, lost his round of 16 match against Félix Auger-Aliassime after a good start 6: 4, 3: 6 and. And drives to Wimbledon with far less match practice than desired. However, it cannot be assumed that the 39-year-old Swiss will postpone a tournament start in the coming week. Like Daniil Medvedev, who has also already retired, who called for the event in Mallorca at short notice.
In the match against Auger-Aliassime, Federer managed the first break, which he saved with a little effort until he won the set. The second round started shakily, Auger-Aliassime quickly pulled away. And in the third set he had no more problems at all with the 39-year-old, who was also no longer particularly smooth. Before the declared season highlight at Wimbledon, some question marks arise again.
For Félix Auger-Aliassime, the good run on grass continues. The Canadian was in the final in Stuttgart, where he lost to Marin Cilic. In Halle he will face either Jan-Lennard Struff or Marcos Giron in the quarter-finals.
