After leaving the French Open, the Swiss tennis star Roger Federer wants to get new momentum for his season highlight in Halle. "Now the most important time begins for me," said Federer, referring to the ATP tournament in East Westphalia: "I want to show my best tennis and play successfully on grass. It's just great to be here again."

Halle traditionally serves the 20-time Grand Slam winner as preparation for the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament (June 28 to July 11). At the 28th edition of the competition in Halle (June 12th to 20th) Federer will enter the race as defending champion. In addition to the Swiss, the German number one Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) and the world number two Daniil Medvedev (Russia) also belong to the field of 32 participants.

Federer left the French Open after reaching the last sixteen to save his body for the upcoming grass season. Federer had won his three matches against Denis Istomin, Marin Cilic and Dominik Koepfer in Paris with some convincing performances. The almost 40-year-old veteran no longer wanted to compete against Matteo Berrettini. In Halle, Roger Federer won the last edition of the 2019 tournament in the final against David Goffin.
