ATP Hamburg: Andrey Rublev masters the opening hurdle with ease

Andrey Rublev made it through to the second round of the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg. Pablo Cuevas , Jiri Vesely and Tommy Paul also celebrated opening successes.

Andrey Rublev didn't give Tennys Sandgren a chance

The Russian tennis professional Andrey Rublev easily took his opening hurdle at the tournament at Rothenbaum in Hamburg. The 22-year-old, who was placed fifth, beat the American Tennys Sandgren 6: 3 and 6: 3. Rublev last made it into the quarter-finals at the US Open and failed there because of his compatriot Daniil Medvedev, who was also starting in Hamburg.

Gilles Simon, tournament winner in 2011, had to pack his things beforehand. The French lost to the Czech Jiri Vesely 5: 7 and 2: 6. The US-American Tommy Paul made it into the round of 16 with a 6: 4, 0: 6 and 6: 4 against the South African Kevin Anderson and the Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas with a 6: 4 and 6: 2 victory over Taylor Fritz the USA.

The German professionals Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein), Dominik Koepfer (Furtwangen), Philipp Kohlschreiber (Augsburg) and Yannick Hanfmann (Karlsruhe) all play their first round games on Tuesday.
