First a 5-0 start in round one, then two warnings for exceeding the time and one for coaching, an almost ten-minute toilet break after round two - the Friday afternoon in Hamburg had a lot in store for Stefanos Tsitsipas. But not the entry into the semifinals. Filip Krajinovic grabbed it, who got stronger as the match continued. And ultimately won with 1: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 3. Tsitsipas also missed the saturation on world number three, which he would have succeeded in the event of a tournament victory.

Krajinovic, on the other hand, continued his run of three-set successes: In round one, the Serb had struggled against Daniel Altmaier over the full distance as well as in the round of 16 against Philipp Kohlschreiber. Krajinovic was as little irritated by Tsitsipas' lightning start as by the long break after the set equalization. Even chair referee Carlos Bernardes picked up the radio to find out how the French Open finalist was feeling. In the decision, Filip Krajinovic managed the early break to 2-1. And the outsider could no longer take this away.

Krajinovic now against Djere

Sensible for the used afternoon for Tsitsipas: In the very last game he led 40-0 on his own serve, then thought that he would have won the game with an ace. Bernardes corrected that Krajinovic made some incredible returns. And came with a double fault and a forehand ball from Tsitsipas to his semi-final place.

In the first quarter-finals of the day Laslo Djere surprisingly won 6: 2 and 6: 2 against Nikoloz Basilashvili. The latter has already won the title twice at Rothenbaum in Hamburg. After Djere meets Krajinovic on Saturday, it is already certain that the final in Hamburg 2021 will definitely take place with Serbian participation.
