Alexander Zverev can look forward to the quarter-finals

Initially, both players should perform their serves confidently, but Alexander Zverev managed the first break in the seventh game. However, the German had to give it up again immediately - ultimately, a tie-break should bring the decision in the first round.

In this, both players acted a bit hesitant, Zverev still worked out two set balls. The 23-year-old left out two other options, just like a little later, but with the fifth option, the world number seven took the short decision with 13:11. Mannarino had previously missed a total of three set balls.

The Frenchman didn't let himself be disturbed by the loss of the first section and continued to hold up very well. Zverev made up a break deficit twice, but was quickly confronted with a 4-0 deficit in the new tie-break. With five points in a row, however, the German made it 5: 4.

A few minutes later, Zverev found a match point at 7: 6, but a return from the world number seven landed just behind the line. Two points later it was clear that a third round would bring the decision.

In the quarter-finals against Rublev or Wawrinka

Zverev now tried to apply more pressure, but was only partially successful. The 23-year-old missed a break in the first and fifth game, but the native of Hamburg had hardly any problems with his own service. So it happened as it had to: Zverev took Mannarino's serve to 5: 4 and then served after defending a breakball.

After 3:00 hours, the 7: 6 (11), 6: 7 (7) and 6: 4 success was certain. In the quarter-finals, Zverev will now meet Andrey Rublev or Stan Wawrinka. The game will be played last on Friday (around 8:30 p.m. CET) on Court Central.
