It was not until Saturday that Struff (31) was eliminated in the semifinals of the ATP tournament in St. Petersburg. In Russia, Struff had lost to Taylor Fritz from the USA in three sets.

On Monday evening, Struff's team-mate Dominik Koepfer (Furtwangen) reached the second round in a dramatic game. The 27-year-old, who slipped into the main draw as a lucky loser, fended off seven match points against two-time Olympic champion Andy Murray (Great Britain) and won in the tie-break of the third set 11: 9.

Last year's finalist Alexander Zverev (Hamburg / No. 4) intervenes after a bye at the start of the event, endowed with 3.08 million euros, on Wednesday against Dusan Lajovic (Serbia). Zverev had won his 18th title on the professional tour in Vienna on Sunday, it was already his fifth tournament victory this season. In 2020, the Tokyo Olympic champion lost to Daniil Medvedev in the Paris final. The only German winner in Bercy so far is Boris Becker, who triumphed in 1986, 1989 and 1992.
