ATP Masters Paris-Bercy: Medvedev flies out on return

Daniil Medvedev lost the first game after his injury-related cancellation last week at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. The 23-year-old Russian lost 6-0, 2-6, 4-6 at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy against local hero Jeremy Chardy.

For Daniil Medvedev (ATP 4), the opening of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Paris-Bercy has been disappointing. The 23-year-old Russian, who received a bye in the French capital's € 5.8 million indoor clay court tournament as the fourth seedling, drew in three sets against Jeremy Chardy (ATP 65). /

In the first sentence everything went according to plan from the point of view of the right wing from Moscow. While Medvedev used a break ball on the other side of the experienced Frenchman could not earn a single break chance. The one break was enough for Medvedev to win the first set just 6: 4.

In the second round, the game then tilted in favor of the now very strong local hero. Worn by the local audience, the 32-year-old succeeded in giving up the service, which is now ailing Medvedev, twice as much. That was enough to win the second set clearly with 6: 2.

Medvedev quarrels and Chardy shines

In the third sentence, everything initially stayed in order. Neither Medvedev nor Chardy, who had fought to qualify for the main draw of Paris-Bercy, could start with a break. In the course of the sentence, the increasingly quarrelsome Russian had to bow to Chardy at the score of 3: 3 and hand over his own eye-catching game to the interim 3: 4. The one-time ATP tournament winner from France was no longer able to take the lead and won 6: 4.

So Chardy is in the round of 16 in Paris, where he meets the winner of the match between Cristian Garin (ATP 42) and John Isner (ATP 17). Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 14) also achieved a victory just before Chardy's success. The former world ranking third in his first round match beat Frenchman Ugo Humbert (ATP 56) 4: 6, 6: 1, 6: 2. The eight-time ATP winner meets in the second round on the Belgian David Goffin (ATP 14).
