Last year, Karen Khachanov had shocked the professional world and probably even in Paris-Bercy, had defeated after the series Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem and in the final Novak Djokovic. This time already after the first appearance was over. The Russian defeated Jan-Lennard Struff with 6: 7 (5), 6: 3 and 5: 7.

The match duration of exactly two hours already suggests: Long rallies were in short supply on the center court this Tuesday. Both players served 17 aces, three double faults. And had to give up their serve twice. However, Struff was able to set the deciding accent, and like Khachanov still has a big season highlight ahead of him: the Davis Cup final in Madrid. There they will lead their national teams.

In Paris-Bercy Struff meets in the second round now either to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Matteo Berrettini. The Italian was in the semi-finals last week in Vienna and still plays for important points for a first participation in the ATP Finals in London. Tsonga was able to clinch his first match win on 1000 since 2017 with success against Andrey Rublev on Monday.
