Now the 46-year-old will work permanently with Germany's number two. For this, the German Tennis Association (DTB) releases the Fed Cup captain from his duties with immediate effect.

Ulrich Klaus, President of the German Tennis Federation: "Of course, the DTB supports such a deserving Fed Cup player as Julia Görges. That is why we have complied with Jens Gerlach's request for release from his contract. On behalf of the DTB I would like to thank him for his excellent work in the last two years. Head of Women's Tennis Barbara Rittner and the Presidium will now sit together to discuss the timely replacement of the Fed Cup team leader's position. "

With Myskina already on the tour

Since January 2018 Gerlach was captain of the Fed Cup team. Before joining the German Tennis Association, he was already on the road as a coach on the WTA tour, supervising, among others, the Russian Anastasia Myskina, which he led in 2004 to the French Open title.

Jens Gerlach: "It has always been a lot of fun to work with the team, and I take many unforgettable memories with me. I would like to thank the DTB, who fulfilled my request for an exemption. "
