With 3: 6, 4: 6, Thiem and Melzer lost to the duo Lukasz Kubot / Marcelo Melo. In lap one, the two Austrians had defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber and Fernando Verdasco.

In the afternoon, Thiem had surprisingly lost the match against Dusan Lajovic 3: 6, 3: 6.

This means that there is no longer any Austrian player in Monte Carlo. Oliver Marach had already lost his double alongside Mate Pavic in round two against Maximo Gonzalez / Horacio Zeballos on Wednesday.
