The very first game took eleven minutes, Klizan ended it with a backhand error and thus the loss of serve. But Thiem also had to fight, only made it 2-0 after 18 minutes of play. And also set the tone as a setback - after 41 minutes, the 25-year-old Lichtenwörther got the first set 6: 1.

Thiem continued to play as a server in the second set, but missed four break chances in the sixth game. Klizan fended off two of them with strong backhand cross balls. The Slovak, who started the match with a 3: 1 record against Thiem (in ATP tournaments in the main field), on the other hand, always struggled with his serve. At 5: 4, Thiem caught up 0:40 as a backlash - and used his first match ball after 84 minutes -

Thiem did not have to fend off a single breakball during the entire match - and was very satisfied with his appearance in the interview after the match. The first step on Court Rainier III is always something special. Dominic Thiem will face Dusan Lajovic in the round of 16. The Serb won against David Goffin from Belgium in two sets.

On Thursday, Dominic Thiem will probably have a double shift - first in singles and then alongside Jürgen Melzer against the pair Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, who are in second place.
