Dominic Thiem's final in the ATP hard court tournament in Canada, endowed with around 6.3 million US dollars, is after the quarter-finals. The 14-time ATP tournament winner was significantly inferior in physical terms to the 23-year-old Russian in the match at Court Central in Montreal. While Montreal's number two struggled at his seventh match in the past ten days, Medvedev's appearance on the other side seemed much more nimble. /

From Thiem's point of view, the first set started poorly: the Lower Austrian had to give up his first serve. Since the number eight Medvedev himself made hardly any mistakes and the Lichtenwörther, on the other hand, always made careless mistakes, there was not much change in the clear course of the game in favor of the Russian. The Kitzbühel winner Thiem even had to give up his service again at the end, which meant the first loss of set after 30 minutes.

In the second set things got even worse for the Lower Austrian: The exhausted Thiem got no foot in the game and had to bow to the Russian after only 56 minutes of play with 1: 6. Since the quarterfinal defeat in April 2018 in Monte Carlo against Rafael Nadal (0: 6, 2: 6), it has been Thiem's highest defeat.

In his second Masters semi-final, Medvedev is waiting for the winner from the game between Karen Khachanov (ATP 8) and Alexander Zverev (ATP 7), who will then compete at Court Central in Montreal. "It was a good match for me. I'm happy with my performance"; Medvedev said to SKY after his success.
