ATP Newport: Kevin Anderson secures first title in over two years

In January 2019 Kevin Anderson had triumphed for the last time at an ATP tournament in Pune, India, over two years later the South African struck again in Newport: In the final of the 250 event, the two-time Grand Slam finalist battled Youngster Jenson Brooksky with 7: 6 (8) and 6: 4 through.

In the tie-break of the first set, Anderson had to fend off two set balls from his 20-year-old opponent, in the second round the world number 74 was enough. then an early break to finally turn onto the winning road. After two hours and eleven minutes, the wildcard holder used his second match ball.

Anderson thus won his first tournament win on grass and the seventh overall. But Brooksby - currently number 126 in the world - was completely convincing in Newport.
