What duels had the two already fought - on Thursday in Rome, however, it was a clear thing for Novak Djokovic. The Djoker beat Stan the Man 6:2 6:2 in a relatively spectacular match. /

Wawrinka gave up his serve right at the beginning, he seemed a step too slow and not agile enough for long stretches of the match. No wonder: Wawrinka was out of action for a year, in Rome he is only playing his third tournament since his comeback.

In round two, Djokovic again took the lead with a double break, a short comeback at the end of the match didn't last - Wawrinka gave up his serve straight away.

Djokovic: "He's Stan Wawrinka, he can always hurt you"

Nevertheless, the tournament in Rome is a success for the 37-year-old: In round 1 he had won against Reilly Opelka, followed by Laslo Djere in the round of 16.

"It's great that Stan is back," said Djokovic afterwards. "He won two three-set matches, but you can see that he's not physically fit yet. But: He's Stan Wawrinka, he can always hurt you."

Djokovic meets Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of eight.

Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Jannik Sinner had already made it through to the round of 16 during the day.

Rafael Nadal is still at the start in the evening: The defending champion and ten-time winner in Rome meets Denis Shapovalov ( here in the live ticker).
