Struff had to play against Matteo Berrettini for the second time this year - in contrast to the game in Stuttgart, which the Italian narrowly won in the semi-finals on the way to victory in the tournament, the Warsteiner had no order this time. After a net playing time of 61 minutes, Berrettini won 6: 2 and 6: 1. Regen had interrupted Tuesday in phases at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai.

From a German perspective, there was no success in doubles: French Open winners Andreas Mies and Kevin Krawietz lost to Novak Djokovic and Filip Krajinovic with 3: 6, 6: 3 and 3:10. Defending champion Djokovic only enters the individual competition with the match against Denis Shapovalov on Wednesday.

Last year finalist Borna Coric also had to say goodbye in round one. The Croatian defeated Croatian defeated Andrey Rublev with 4: 6 and 6: 7 (4).
