Marin Cilic has won his 19th career title. And Félix Auger-Aliassime has to wait for his first individual triumph. Because Cilic prevailed in the final of the MercedesCup 2021 with 7: 6 (2) and 6: 3. And it shouldn't have made it so exciting in the first sentence. Then Cilic managed the supposedly decisive break to 6: 5, but the veteran from Croatia could not serve. In the tie-break, however, Auger-Aliassime made too many mistakes. In the second act, the break to 5: 3 was the decisive factor for Cilic, who had started the event at TC Weißenhof without being seated.

Félix Auger-Aliassime, who failed in the final in Stuttgart in 2019 to Matteo Berrettini, also lost his eighth individual final on the ATP tour. The Canadian saw himself too often on the defensive against Cilic, the next chance for the first big coup is already on Monday in Halle / Westphalia. There Auger-Aliassime was drawn against his doubles partner Hubert Hurkacz. Marin Cilic will continue at the Queen's Club in London, where he won his last title in 2018.
