A year ago, Jurij Rodionov only failed in the semifinals due to eventual champion Marin Cilic. In the 2022 edition of the traditional tournament at TC Weissenhof, the left-hander was eliminated in round one. Rodionov lost to the Hungarian number one Marton Fucsovics 7: 6 (5), 3: 6 and 4: 6. previously, Rodionov had played his way into the peloton of the 250 event via qualifying.

The tableau is led by Stefanos Tsitsipas in front of Matteo Berrettini . Tsitsipas starts against young Swiss Dominic Stricker, who held his own against Maxime Cressy in a tiebreak thriller. Berrettini won the tournament in Stuttgart 2019.
