No extension of the Oscar Otte fairy tale in Stuttgart - and nothing with the first final on the ATP tour for the climber in recent months. Because in the critical phases, Matteo Berrettini was the better.

Otte, however, started strong, dominating most (but few) rallies early on, he and Berrettini making up a lot on serve. At the end of the first round it got tight, Otte fended off a break chance against himself at 4: 4 with a safe serve and volley. The tie-break was annoying: Otte got the first mini-break with powerful forehands, but gave it out of hand with a double fault. At 7:7 he wanted too much on the Italian's second serve and missed, followed by another double fault to lose the set.

Otte can still be satisfied with his week, he won two tight matches in the tiebreaks with nerves of steel, and he also kept up against top 10 man Berrettini.

Otte will thus continue to rise in the world rankings, he is currently 50th in the live ranking. It remains to be seen whether this will remain the case until Monday and whether the Cologne native will be among the top 50 tennis players in the world for the first time: if Andy Murray reaches the final, will he pass Otte; on the other hand, if Kyrgios wins the entire tournament, he would be in front.

Otte entered the top 100 for the first time at the beginning of 2022 and is currently the second best German player after Alexander Zverev.

Berrettini, on the other hand, remains the boss at the Weissenhof at the Boss Open. After his victory in 2019, he is now aiming for the triumph this year. He is currently in Stuttgart with a record of eight wins in eight games.

His final opponent will be determined from 3 p.m. between Andy Murray and Nick Kyrgios
