Otte won 7: 6 (6), 7: 6 (4) and once again showed himself to be an expert in tiebreak decisions. Otte had already won both tiebreaks in round 1 against Daniel Altmaier. /

Otte started with an early break against Shapovalov, took a 4-2 lead, but then the first serve left him a bit, "the feeling was gone," Otte explained afterwards.

In the second round, both players held their service games, only a 15:30 at 5: 4 for Otte gave reason for hope - after a wonderful passing ball by the Cologne player, opponent Shapovalov was briefly on the ground. But he got back up and stopped. In the tie-break, Otte initially went 3-0 through the rags, at 5: 4 Shapovalov misjudged bitterly: Otte returned a strong serve briefly to the sidelines, Shapovalov had meanwhile stormed forward and was hoping for the ball out - but nothing there. Otte immediately followed up with another strong passing shot at the first match point.

Oscar Otte with the biggest win so far

Victory over the world number 16. Shapovalov, he is the biggest for Otte so far, the shooting star of the last year from a German point of view. Otte attracted a lot of attention here by reaching the round of 16, followed by tournament victories in Ismaning, Ortisei and Bari and making it into the top 100 for the first time.

Otte is now number 2 in Germany.

In Stuttgart he is the first German player to reach the last eight, where he meets Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.
