ATP Umag: Carlos Alcaraz starts confidently, Lorenzo Musetti is eliminated

Successful start for defending champion Carlos Alcaraz at the ATP 250 tournament in Umag: The top seeded Spaniard won the first round of the clay court event 6: 2 and 6: 3 against Norbert Gombos. The 19-year-old meets Facundo Bagnis in the last eight on Friday.

Hamburg winner Lorenzo Musetti did not fare as well. The Italian, who held his own against Alcaraz in three sets in the final on Sunday in the Hanseatic city, clearly lost to his compatriot Marco Cecchinato in the round of 16 with a score of 4:6 and 3:6.

With Sebastian Baez, number four of the tournament also had to say goodbye in Umag. The Argentinian lost 6:3, 1:6 and 5:7 to the Italian qualifier Marco Agamenone despite a 5:3 lead in the third set.

Jannik Sinner, who was in second place, had already made it into the quarter-finals on Wednesday. The 20-year-old beat Jaume Munar 6: 4 and 6: 4.
