The end of the final in the women's doubles was almost bizarre: Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka had every chance of winning, but were initially unable to use their opportunities. Above all, Mertens left a surprising amount in the very last game. Fortunately for the Belgian and her partner from Belarus, Siniakova finally put a backhand ball out of bounds. And Mertens and Sabalenka celebrated their fifth joint tournament victory, the second at a Grand Slam tournament after the US Open 2019.
Mertens / Sabalenka finished second in the first major of the year, Krejcikova / Siniakova one place behind. The tournament favorites, Su-Wei Hsieh and Barbora Strycova, were surprisingly eliminated in round two against Darija Jurak and Nina Stojanovic.
