Novak Djokovic has finished Aslan Karatsev's amazing run of success at the Australian Open 2021. The world number one defeated the Russian qualifiers 6: 3, 6: 2 and will play for his ninth title in Melbourne on Sunday (from 9.30 a.m. on Eurosport, in Austria on ServusTV and in our live ticker).

Karatsev first qualified in Doha to take part in the first major in 2021, then remained successful against Diego Schwartzman, Félix Auger-Aliassime and in the quarter-finals against a battered Grigor Dimitrov. Djokovic, on the other hand, has been struggling with an abdominal muscle injury for a few matches that did not hinder him in the match against Karatsev.

Tsitsipas against Medvedev on Friday

Djokovic was an experienced performance against the 27-year-old Grand Slam debutant, only in the second set the favorite lost focus for a short time and let his opponent come from 5: 1 to 5: 4. And actually had minor problems saving the sentence. In the third round, Djokovic started again with a break, but had to give up his service. The fact that the Serbian grabbed the serve from Karatsev again immediately afterwards reflected the expected strengths. After 113 minutes of play, Novak Djokovic's entry into the final was sealed.

The second semi-finals will be played by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev on Friday. The Greek defeated Rafael Nadal on Wednesday after a 2-0 set deficit, Medvedev had no problems against compatriot Andrey Rublev.
