Towards the end of the second match in the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday afternoon, it got really loud again. Not that Serena Williams and Aryna Sabalenka had held back in terms of acoustic accompaniment to their hits - but the closer the decision came, the more euphoric the two shouted their joy after successful hits into the empty circle. Serena reacted almost cautiously to the match ball, which sailed past her out of the way: The 23-time major winner won 6: 4, 2: 6 and 6: 4 and plays in the quarterfinals either against Iga Swiatek or Simona Halep.
