Eva Lys and Tamara Korpatsch were eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open. Grand Slam debutant Lys (21) lost to the Spaniard Cristina Bucsa 6: 2, 0: 6, 2: 6. Lys apparently struggled with wrist problems from the second set.

Korpatsch had previously missed a surprise. The 27-year-old was beaten by the British Emma Raducanu 3: 6, 2: 6. At times Korpatsch kept up properly in the duel with the US Open winner of 2021, but ultimately clearly missed her first win ever in a Grand Slam tournament.

Lys with strong qualification

Lys had earned her ticket to the peloton at the first major of the year without dropping a set in qualifying. Among other things, the world number 126 had in the Billie Jean King Cup. already hinted at her potential and got off to a good start in her first main draw match. But then she fell behind and had her right wrist treated at a score of 0:5 in the second set.

Korpatsch, number 76 in the world, was also in the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time. It had already celebrated its premiere at the three other major events, but also missed out on a success.
