Out for Olympic champion Belinda Bencic at the Australian Open. The 25-year-old Swiss lost 5-7, 2-6 to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in Melbourne in the round of 16. Bencic's dream of the first Grand Slam title burst.

Sabalenka, on the other hand, once again focuses on her first major triumph. The 24-year-old has already played three semi-finals on the big stage, but it wasn't enough for more. The Belarusian now faces Donna Vekic, who in turn got the better of Linda Fruehwirtova.

The second quarterfinals in the lower half of the tableau are contested by Magda Linette and Karolina Pliskova: While the former impressively extended her run with a two-set win over the tournament's number four, Caroline Garcia, Pliskova defeated Shuai Zhang in two sets after a dream start.

Elena Rybakina (surprise win over Iga Swiatek), Jelena Ostapenko (two-set win against Coco Gauff), Jessica Pegula (7: 5, 6: 2 against Barbora Krejcikova) and Vicoria Azarenka (three-set win over surprise woman Zhu ) reached the quarterfinals.
