The Kiel native is suffering from an injury to her left thigh, which she sustained at the WTA tournament in Adelaide on Wednesday. Therefore she emphasized: "I have no great expectations."

Kerber does not see her participation in the tournament at risk. "I'm glad I'm not playing until Tuesday," she said, confident that she had managed to get the thigh muscle hardened by then. The world rankings-18th meets a not yet known qualifier in the first round. Kerber won her first Grand Slam title in Melbourne in 2016, last year the left-handed player eliminated Danielle Collins in the round of 16.

Dieter Kindlmann has been looking after Kerber since the end of last year, but the start of the season in Brisbane missed the task in Adelaide with a narrow defeat against Samantha Stosur.
