As expected, the arc of tension in Alexander Zverev's third match at the Australian Open 2022 was not particularly great: while Matteo Berrettini and Carlos Alcaraz delivered a five-set thriller in the Rod Laver Arena, Zverev experienced a routine day in the office. And defeated Radu Albot safely 6:3, 6:4 and 6:4.

The man from Moldova played within his means - but these do not include weapons with which he could threaten Alexander Zverev. The Olympic champion from Tokyo, on the other hand, could, as usual, rely on his serve. Zverev acted in a concentrated manner and, as in the matches against Daniel Altmaier and John Millman, never came into danger.

The next task should be a bit more demanding: Zverev will meet Denis Shapovalov in the round of 16 on Sunday. The Canadian was able to hold his own in four sets against Reilly Opelka. Zverev and Shapovalov have played each other six times so far, the German leads 4: 2 in the balance sheet. The last encounter was in 2021 at the ATP Cup.
