The inclined tennis fan is already happy at the beginning of 2021 when at least a few of the double combinations on the ATP tour are recognizable. After the ATP Finals last season, there were signs of disintegration everywhere: Mate Paivic left Bruno Soares, is now playing with Nikola Mektic, who in turn gave Wesley Koolhof the pass. Or the other way around. Jürgen Melzer has ended his career, and Kevin Krawietz andAndreas Mies are not currently doing their work together. However, this is due to an injury to Mies.

After all: Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury have remained loyal to each other. And this loyalty was rewarded on Friday with the return to the final of the Australian Open. The defending champions defeated Bruno Soares, who has agreed to meet again with Jamie Murray, 6: 4 and 7: 6 (2).

In the final it is now against a pairing that originally came about by chance, but which has now made it to ninth place on the seeding list for a major: Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek. The latter had triumphed with Philipp Oswald in Kitzbühel in the summer of 2019, but was already loosely having an appointment with Dodig. From this still tender connection, a lasting relationship developed with the subsequent triumph at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. After the comeback victory in the semifinals against Mektic / Pavic, this now leads to the chance of a Grand Slam title.
