Less than a week ago, Andy Murray and Nikoloz Basilashvili had dueled at the ATP 250 tournament in Sydney, and the two met again at the Australian Open - and like six days ago, the three-time Grand Slam winner sat down after a hard fight.

6: 1, 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 7 (5) and 6: 4 was the end result after three hours and 52 minutes of play for Murray, who was in the second round of the Australian Open and meets Taro Daniel. In 2019, the Scot had supposedly ended his career in Melbourne due to persistent hip problems. "It's incredible. The last three to four years have been tough," Murray said in an on-court interview after his success.

While Basilashvili, number 21 of the tournament, said goodbye, world number ninth Felix Auger-Aliassime just scratched the curve. The Canadian beat Emil Ruusuvuori 6: 4, 0: 6, 3: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4 after being 1: 2 behind in sets. John Isner, who was seeded 22nd, lost to compatriot Maxime Cressy 6:7 (2), 5:7, 7:6 (4), 7:6 (4) and 4:6.

Benoit Paire and Thiago Monteiro also fought a five-set battle on Court 15. In the end, the Frenchman, who now meets Grigor Dimitrov, had the upper hand with 6: 4, 3: 6, 7: 5, 2: 6 and 7: 5.
