After testing positive for the COVID-19 virus just a few days ago, Murray was unable to fly to Australia as planned. And so you don't have to start the mandatory 14-day quarantine in time to get fit for the Australian Open. Apparently, the Schottem, who actually said goodbye to the tennis community in Melbourne in 2019, was in constant contact with the organizers of Tennis Australia. And then had to withdraw.

Murray had received a wildcard from Craig Tiley. This could go to one of the six lucky losers who were still allowed to make their way to Melbourne after missing qualification in Doha. One of the candidates is the German Cedric-Marcel Stebe, who is currently in tough quarantine. On the other hand, it cannot be ruled out that the Australians will find a hopeful junior who will be given a wildcard appearance in the first major of the year.
