Kenin won 6: 4 and 6: 4 against Ons Jabeur. For the young American, it is the first entry into the final round of one of the four largest tournaments in the tennis world. Kenin had defeated Serena Williams at the French Open last year.

Ashleigh Barty, first in Melbourne, won 7: 6 (6) and 6: 2 against Petra Kvitova. Kvitova, who lost to the Australian Open Naomi Osaka in the final in 2019, was unable to take advantage of the lead in the tie break of the first set at 6: 5. In the second round Barty pulled away quickly and had to fight off two breakballs in the very last game. The world number one finished the match with two aces.

Ashleigh Barty is the first Australian semi-finalist since Wendy Turnbull to reach this stage of the tournament in 1984. The Australian has already played five times against Kenin. The first four matches went to Barty, but in Wuhan 2019 Kenin prevailed. In the two outstanding quarter-finals on Wednesday, Garbine Muguruza and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and finally Simona Halep and Anett Kontaveit meet.
