What a day for Australian tennis fans, what a day for Ashliegh Barty - and also: what a remarkable comeback for the world number one in the second set of the final of the Australian Open 2022: Barty was 1: 5 behind against Daniele Collins , the American failed to save the sentence twice. Barty gradually got closer, leveling the score at 5-5 to the cheers of the 80 percent full stands at Rod Laver Arena.

Christine O'Neill, the last lokla matador who was able to get the Titek at the Australian Open, watched her successor's race to catch up from the front row. However, Collins recovered and made it 6: 5 with his own service. A tiebreak had to decide this round. Collins started with a slight mistake, Barty followed up relentlessly and made it 4-0 with the next mini-break. At 5:1 the sides were changed, after 86 minutes the favorite found her first match ball. Which she used with a forehand pass ball.

Barty with third Grand Slam title

Ashleigh Barty holds three major titles: in 2019 she remained successful in Roland Garros, last year the Australian then won in Wimbledon in the final against Karolina Pliskova. In Melbourne in early 2021, Barty failed in the semifinals against Jennifer Brady.

For Collins, however, the first major of the year was a great success. With her first entry into the final of a Grand Slam tournament, the American made sure that she would be among the top ten players in the world from Monday.
