Tennis was heard on Australian television on Saturday evening: The women's final between Ashleigh Barty andDanielle Collins reached more than 4.3 million viewers at its peak, with an average of more than 3.5 million fans watching the first home triumph of an Australian followed live since 1978. That was more than four times as many as last year when Naomi Osaka beat Jennifer Brady.

And the subsequent doubles final, in whichNick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis defeated their compatriots Max Purcell and Matthew Ebden in straight sets, was also well received on TV. At its peak, 3.1 million people tuned in, an average of just under 2.3 million. A record for doubles finals.
