The middle Sunday of the Australian Open 2022 did not go well from a German point of view, in addition to top man Alexander Zverev in singles, Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies also had to give up. Tim Pütz remained, who reached the quarter-finals without a fight with his partner Michael Venus. A nice success for the two Australian buddies, who had eliminated the two tournament favorites Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic in the previous round. As in that match, Kokkinakis and Kyrgios rode the wave of enthusiasm in this game, playing their strengths from the baseline and on the serve.

Actually, the two should have gone into the Bütt for Italy at the ATP Cup, but then other couples spontaneously arose. At the preparatory tournament in Sydney, Bolelli/Fognini reached the final (after beating Krawietz/Mies in the semifinals), which they lost to Peers/Polasek.
However, the chances of a DaCapo for Fabio and Simone are not (yet) particularly good, even if they showed comeback qualities in the three-set win against Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares: In the quarter-finals it could be a duel with the second-placed player seeded duo Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury.
