Australian Open: Chaos in Melbourne - another corona case on the second charter flight

The bad news from the Australian Open does not end: On another charter flight to Melbourne, one person tested positive for the corona virus. Thus, a total of 47 players have to be in a "hard quarantine". Germany's top player Angelique Kerber is also affected.

Another 23 players are not allowed to train during the quarantine

The Australian Open threatens to sink into chaos. After it became known early on Saturday morning in Central European Time that two people on board a charter flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne had passed a positive corona test , the organizers announced another bad news a little later.

There was also a person on board a flight from Abu Dhabi to Melbourne who tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival. This means that 23 other players have to stay in their hotel rooms for two weeks. A total of 47 professionals are now in a "hard quarantine" in which, unlike originally planned, no training will take place.

In addition to Bianca Andreescu, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Ons Jabeur, Marta Kostyuk, Belinda Bencic and Maria Sakkari, Germany's top player Angelique Kerber is also directly affected by the measures taken by the Ministry of Health and Social Services of the State of Victoria.

What this means for the Australian Open is still unclear.
