It was a déja vu in two ways: As in Wimbledon last year, the draw brought the game between Cori Gauff and Venus Williams to the first round - the winner is the same. Cori Gauff beat the older Williams Sisters again, this time with 7: 6 (5), 6: 3.

Gauff initially failed to reserve the first round after being in the lead with the break for the entire set. But she showed her nerve strength in the tie-break when she made two second serves towards the end at almost 170 km / h. She then owed the set win to a lightly crafty backhand volley from Williams.

In the second set, the 15-year-old quickly took the 3-0 lead and this time brought her break to win the match.

Gauff now meets Sorana Cirstea, who was successful against Barbora Strycova.
