"Many enemies, much honor" goes the old saying - and Daniil Medvedev spares no effort to push his potential honor to new heights. The clashes with the New York audience at the US Open 2019 have long been legendary, and at the end of last year the audience in Madrid didn't really appreciate that Medvedev emphasized several times how much fun he had with the hosts in the group phase to be able to eliminate the Davis Cup final round.

At the Australian Open, Medvedev has now opened a new front, after he had messed it up with the fans Down Under at the latest in the game against Nick Kyrgios. During the encounter with the local hero, the spectators had disturbed Medvedev between the first and second serve with shouts and noises, the second in the world rankings then demanded more respect.

And has now also targeted the tournament management. To be more precise: those people who are responsible for scheduling the matches. For the second time in a row, Medvedev, who started the first major of the year as the highest ranked player after Novak Djokovic was excluded, was only allowed to play on the second largest court in Melbourne Park.

Medvedev asked what he had to do to be assigned to the Laver Arena after his hard-fought four-set win against Maxime Cressy. His third-round match against Botic van de Zandschulp had already taken place at the Margaret Court Arena. While local hero Alex de Minaur, number 32 of the Australian Open 2022, was allowed to play Laver against Pablo Andujar at the same time.

De Minaur also played alongside Medvedev in the largest stadium on Monday, but this time against Jannik Sinner. Which, in terms of attractiveness, was more likely to be represented. From the next round, however, Daniil Medvedev will no longer have this problem: All men's and women's quarterfinals will be held in the Rod Laver Arena.
