Now you should start, the Australian Open for Dominic Thiem. In his opening match with Adrian Mannarino, the Austrian met a player who could not be better suited to him. Thiem and the Frenchman had faced each other seven times - Dominic Thiem was allowed to leave the field seven times. So on paper a completely solvable task for the Lichtenwörther - anything but a victory for the Austrian would be a big surprise.

The Austrian started the game with a swing and was able to take his serve from his opponent in the fourth game of the first set. As a result, Dominic Thiem was closer to a second break than Adrian Mannarino could have come again. After 48 minutes, the Lichtenwörther was able to serve set one with 6: 3.

Narrower second pass

The second set started with competitive service games. On the one hand, this was due to a significant increase in performance by the Frenchman, on the other hand, Dominic Thiem did not act fully concentrated in this phase and seemed error-prone. When the score was 2-2, it was again the Austrian who was preparing to take the premium from his five-year-old opponent. Two French forehand balls en suite in the Aus gave the Lichtenwörther the break in the fifth game of the second set.

Unlike in set one, Adrian Mannarino was able to fight back and secured the competitive eighth game. But it shouldn't be of much use to the French, because Thiem caught the perfect time and took Mandarino's serve to 6: 5 in the second round. A few moments later Dominic Thiem was able to close the bag and increase it to 2: 0 sets.

Thiem breakt early in set three

The start of the third set couldn't have been better for Dominic Thiem. Already in the first game he benefited from a double error Mannarinos and secured the early break. That was the sticking point in this game: Mannarino was visibly broken and took the break to 0: 3. The rest was just a matter of form for Thiem. The Austrian also won set three with 6: 2 and finally won 6: 3, 7: 5 and 6: 2 against Adrian Mannarino.

Dominic Thiem is now in the second round of the Australian Open as in the previous year. In the previous year, however, the Austrian had already reached this end station. At that time, the 26-year-old was struggling with health problems. Quite different this year: Thiem looks physically fit and left little strength in lap one.

On Tuesday in the early morning hours in the encounter between Alex Bolt and Albert Ramos-Vinolas the next opponent of the Austrian is determined. After his opening win, Thiem can go into his second round match with a wide chest.
