Australian Open draw: Dominic Thiem against Rublev, Zverev draws qualifiers

Tough draw for Dominic Thiem at the start of the Australian Open 2023 - he has to face Andrey Rublev, number 6 in the world. It will probably be more pleasant for Alexander Zverev.

Thiem will start unseeded and only via wildcard at the Australian Open 2023. So it was clear: Thiem can catch anyone, from the qualifier to the top seed. It became Andrey Rublev, currently sixth in the world rankings. He also leads in a direct comparison against Thiem 4: 2, won the last encounter in Giron in 2022 6: 4, 6: 4.

Thiem had been out for a long time after his long wrist injury in 2021 and only returned to the tour last spring.

Thiem's buddy Alexander Zverev got it better, also on the way to a comeback after his injury at the French Open. Zverev plays against a qualifier.

Rafael Nadal is top seeded after the cancellation of Carlos Alcatraz, he plays against the young Briton Jack Draper.
