The really very small trophy that Dylan Alcott placed next to his wheelchair during his speech after the final defeat against Sam Schröder at the Australian Open 2022 really did not do justice to the Australian's grandiose career. Because with the 5: 7 and 0: 6 one of the most amazing sports careers has come to an end. Alcott has won 23 major titles in total, and last year he even managed what Novak Djokovic had failed to do in a promising position: the Golden Slam, i.e. victory in all four majors and at the Olympic Games.

After the defeat, Alcott showed himself to be a big loser and ungrudgingly congratulated his conqueror. Sam will win many more majors, according to Alcott. At the moment the Dutchman is holding at two.

Alcott - "The Happiest Man Alive"

The organizers of the tournament, which Alcott won a total of seven times, also received great praise. "To the Australian Open: I love you so much. Thank you Jane, Craig and everyone else for changing my life. But also for putting someone with a disability at the forefront of your brand. You guys changed my life, but judging by the award I received a few days ago, I think I've changed a few lives too." Dylan Alcott was named Australian of the Year 2021.

Alcott reiterates: “Everywhere in the world, in every locker room, there's wheelchair tennis on TV. We now know the top ten for women and men because everything started here on this court. I'm very grateful. I really am the happiest person in the world. I didn't have to win today's match to realize that."
