At least at the highest tournament level, things are still going well for Emma Radcuanu: The reigning US Open winner beat Sloane Stephens 6: 0, 2: 6 and 6: 1 at the start of the Australian Open and thus celebrated her including the qualifying wins in New York eleventh Grand Slam match success in a row.

Since her surprise triumph at the US Open, Raducanu had only celebrated two wins in four defeats. Against Stephens, however, the 19-year-old showed a strong performance over long periods and thus also ensured the first success under neo-trainer Torben Beltz. In round two, the Brit meets Danka Kovinic.

"I'm very happy with my performance. (...) I don't think the result reflects the quality of the match," said Raducanu after her opening win.

Raducanu's opponent in the final in New York, Leylah Fernandez, has already had to say goodbye . The first Grand Slam tournament of the year has already ended for German number one Angelique Kerber .
