Andy Murray 's incredible journey at the Australian Open 2023 has come to an end. The three-time Grand Slam champion lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round 1: 6, 7: 6 (6), 3: 6 and 4: 6 and
Murray, who had won in round one against Matteo Berrettini and in round two against Thanasi Kokkinakis in five sets, the exertions of the past few days were clearly noticeable. Especially in the first hour nothing went together for the Scotsman.
Thanks to a strong comeback and the frenetic support of the spectators, Murray secured the second set in a tie-break, but Bautista Agut ultimately proved to be too solid in the Margaret Court Arena and won 6: 1, 6: 7 (6), 6: 3 and 6:4. Bautista Agut will face Tommy Paul in the round of 16.
In the night session, another American was able to celebrate his entry into the round of 16. Ben Shelton prevailed against Australian Alexei Popyrin 6: 3, 7: 6 (4) and 6: 4. He now meets compatriot JJ Wolf.
