Caroline Garcia is easily in round two of the Australian Open 2023

Favorite wins in the first round of the women's main competition of the Australian Open 2023: Aryna Sabalenka and Caroline Garcia are already facing their next tasks after clear two-set successes at the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. On the other hand, matches on the outdoor courts had to be canceled or postponed because temperatures of around 36 degrees were the highest on the five-stage heat stress scale.

Sabalenka had just as few problems with the clear 6:1, 6:4 win over the Czech Tereza Martincova as Garcia after her against the Canadian qualifier Katherine Sebov (6:3, 6:0). While the Belarusian is now dealing with the American Shelby Rogers, the Frenchman will again meet a player from the North American state in round two with the 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez.

The Czech Karolina Pliskova is also through, who had an easy game in the Margaret Court Arena with the recently recovered Chinese Xiyu Wang 6: 1, 6: 3. Former top 10 player Garbine Muguruza (Spain) had previously lost to Belgian Elise Mertens after 2:31 hours of fighting 6:3, 6:8 (3), 1:6.
