While only a few top players are still trying their luck in doubles for men - the notable exception is Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open 2023, who competes with his brother Petros - things are different for women: Because Jessica Pegula and Cori Gauff don't count only in singles to the contenders for the title. They are in second place in pair skating.

However, the priorities for both Americans are individually. And since Gauff and Pegula are already in the round of 16. Jessica Pegula, who was in third place, had fewer problems and only played 65 minutes on the court against Marta Kostyuk in the 6-0 and 6-2. Gauff, on the other hand, struggled against compatriot Bernarda Pera despite the quite clear result of 6:3 and 6:2. The 18-year-old needed five match points to celebrate her 101st individual victory on the WTA Tour. Next opponent will be Jelena Ostapenko.

Swiatek against Rybakina in the duel of the major winners

Pegula now has to deal with Barbora Krejcikova. The Czech, with Katerina Siniakova even at the top of the seed list in doubles, won against the Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina 6:3 and 6:2.

Danielle Collins, last year's finalist, was eliminated. Collins was beaten by Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina 2: 6, 7: 5 and 2: 6. Rybakina plays in the round of 16 against Iga Swiatek, who sent the Spaniard Cristina Bucsa home 6-0 and 6-1. The fun only lasted 55 minutes. This brings together the winners of the last three Grand Slam tournaments - Swiatek finally won in 2022 in Roland Garros and at the US Open.
